Buckley was the dog Chris went running with. Carine is much like Chris in every way, people called them twins. Although Carine has a better realtionship with her parents unlike Chris. Even 10 months after the fact that Chris died she still grieves because she had such a great relationship with Chris. Chris Fish came to Carine's house and told her that they found CHris dead. She was completely crushed. Fish and Carine went to her parents house. They went through a long process to make sure that the remains of the body were acctually Chris and they were so they went to get him. After Chris' death Carine ate everything she could because she found it heartbreaking that Chris starved to death and wanted to make up for that. Shortly after that she lost her appetite along with her mother. Walt on the other hand ate everything he could.
Chapter 14: This chapter starts out with Krakauer saying that Chris' death was unplanned and surprising to all the people he knew. He then informs us that he took on the task to climb Devil's Thumb. Krakauer quit his job on the spot and took on the climb. Krakauer drove to Gig Harbor, Washington ditched his car and boated the rest of the way to Devil's Thumb. On the way to Devils Thumb he ran into a woman named Kai. He had deep feelings for her. He left her and started climbing the Thumb. He made a cross with two curtain rods and put it over his hips so he wouldn't fall down any crevasses. Closer to the top of the Thumb he realized that the rods were no use because some of the cracks and crevasses were 40 ft across and his poles only reached 10 if that. He then had to withstand a whiteout and could see NOTHING. He couldn't find a way ouit of the whiteout. He realized that he could die and noone would ever know. He came more prepared then Chris. Krakauer ordered a Bush Pilot to come drop the supplies once he reached the bottom of the Thumb. A plane finally came and dropped 2 boxes. As he continued his climb the snow got deeper and deeper. The climb got more intense as he went, but the more he climbed the easier it got for him. When he got nearer to the top of the Thumb the pressure satarted to rise because he looked down and he noticed that there was nothing but air benaeth him. He didn't succeed he couldnt find a solid patch of rock to get a hold of so he decided to go back down.
